The Storms

My small green house and garden table took a barrering

Stones were thrown up over the promenade
Since December we have had some really wild storms that have caused damage along the coast line here in North Wales. These photos are from llandudno Bay taken on two separate occaisions. The tidal surge did much more damage on the west side  as the high tide  forced it's way up the Conwy estuary given even more destructive power by the on shore wind.
Promenade shelters filled with pebbles

Luckily the wind wasn't blowing into this bay  during this storm

High tide but no damage done

These photos show what destruction was caused on the Deganwy promenade

It looks like a bomb has hit it.......the damage that nature can cause

Re Roofing At Lymehurst

Lymehurst was built in the 1920s, 1924 to be exact. All the houses in the cul-de-sac were built for proffessional people working in the area at that time. So Lymehurst has certainly seen it's share of storms throughout the years. When I bought Lymehurst in 2007 the surveyor did warn me that the roof would need doing. The last two winters when we had really cold weather for a long period defintely had the effect of speeding up the de laminating of the tiles, so making them more porous to the rain and frost. So when more and more bits of tiles landed in the gutters I felt that I needed to take the bull by the horns and get the roof  re done. The added problem when you have a B&B is considering the loss of business it'll incur. Hence the decision to have the job done in January!! The weather has been really bad for the last couple of weeks, wind , rain and storms....worst possible weather for roofers. Now the scaffolding is up I'm hoping for better weather.

The Earth Moved for Me!

Well the earth moved for me on the 29th of May!! We had an 3.8 earthquake further down the coast but it still managed to make itself felt up here in Llandudno, waking me up at 4.19 am and making the pictures on the walls vibrate....not what you want when you really need a good night's sleep!
A very strange sensation so goodness knows what it must be like in a really strong earthquake..........not something Id like to exprience.

Record Crowds Come to The Llandudno Victorian Extravaganza

The Llandudno Victorian  Extravaganza and Transport Festival were held over the Bank Holiday weekend here in Llandudno.  Wonderful sunny weather encouraged record crowds to visit Llandudno. This is the biggest yearly event to be held in llandudno and is the one time that accommodation providers are guaranteed to be full. The main streets are closed off and filled with both old and new fair ground rides and stalls. Many people get dressed up in Victorian costumes to parade through the town along with bands, traction engines and old vehicles.

Dilemas of B & B Owner

So Easter has been and gone and fortunately the weather was really good for the Bank Holiday Weekend. The various local attractions opened, a sign that the holiday season is about to begi. However at the moment the weather it is still trying to decide whether to be spring like or not!
Fortunately we were fully occupied over the Easter Weekend but we had a little bit of a dilema in that we had a couple staying with two very young children and then a couple who have stayed before  who wanted a peaceful break . In such a situation it's quite difficult keeping everybody happy but in the end we succeeded by serving breakfast  quite early for the family and later for the couple.
Usually I only accept children over the age of ten as we have no facilities for very young children but when trying to get established it is hard to turn away a decent  booking but on  the otherhand you don't want to alienate guests who would prefer a child free zone. Decisions, decisions.

Changeable Weather in Llandudno!!

No wonder we Brits talk a lot about the weather. Yesterday we had two seasons, one minute it was beautiful and sunny and the next we had snow flurries. The decorator painting the outside of the house set up twice and then gave up as no sooner had he started to paint then the weather changed!
My first Easter guests have arrived so I hope the weather won't be too bad for them.
At present I'm sat in a very cold kitchen as the windows have been painted and I can't shut them. Think I'll be having to do some jumping around soon!!

Paddle Steamer Will Make a Return To llandudno

Llandudno Pier

Llandudno is once again going to have the Waverely Paddle Steamer, the last seagoing paddle steamer in the world docking at the end of the pier on the 31st of May. That is going to be quite a spectacle

Face Lift for Lymehurst B & B

We are in the midst of having the front of the house decorated. It has taken such a battering these last two years with all the storms that it really was starting to look weather beaten.Of course just when the weather became reasonable enough to allow painting.  I also had guests booked in.so it's a case of trying to keep guests and decorator happy.
As business ground to a halt in February I was really pleased to have a booking for last Saturday. Unfortunately the guests had to cancel as they'd had a bereavement. So on top of a weeks worth of booking not turning up and then the other episode of having another week of bookings also cancelling I was feeling some what fraught. When the decorator left early I decided to dig up the front border!
Preparation work under way. Trying out having the stone work of the porch in white rather than black

 Out with the old

I was feeling all pleased with myself until Monday when the decorator started to manoeuvre his ladders and left lots of squashed plants and holes in my new border. Dug out a few of the plants to preserve them till he's finished!

To save money I divided up plants and transfered others
